Our Topic: Exploratorium
The Exploratorium is a museum of science, art, and human perception founded in 1969 by physicist Frank Oppenheimer. The Exploratorium's mission is to create a culture of learning through innovative environments, programs, and tools that help people nurture their curiosity about the world around them.
Every year 525,000 people visit the Exploratorium to view over 650 original interactive exhibits, displays, and artworks designed, prototyped, and built on site.
The Exploratorium is a learning mecha. 10,000 teachers from 37 states annually participate in Exploratorium-designed workshops.
It's 2002-03 budget was $24,882,000. There are curently 418 employees and an international team of 200 volunteers.
Our Guest: Paul Doherty
Our guest, Paul Doherty holds a Ph.D. in solid-state physics from MIT. Was a tenured professor of physics at Oakland University... is currently the co-director of the Exploratorium Teacher Institute and was the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Learning in 1992.

Durring the 2003 NSTA Convention there was an Iron Science Teacher compition. Paul Doherty used his straw oboe with a giant bell made from 16 covers of the NSTA convention catalog to teach the principles of harmonics.
