Hello Geeks,
I download many things and am always installing and uninstalling whatever
cool new software I can find. Because of this I really need to keep up
with keeping my computer clean. Also I hate spam and the idea that my
computer can be used as a zombie really pisses me off. So my question is
what is the best method of cleaning my computer. I have my computer on all
the time, and can set scans up to run overnight. I use an AMD 3200 and
currently Windows XP 64 bit edition, (however im thinking of going back to
regular). Im and engineering student and need to run several programs that
are windows specific, so getting a MAC, doesnt solve the problem. Also I
used Fedora Red Hat a little, but not enough to be confident with that as
my only OS.

I'm a big fan of three programs.

1. AVG Free for anti-virus. It co-exists quite nicely with McAfee on my home machine.
2. Spybot search and destroy. It always finds crap that I didn't know about. Always.
3. Finally, Ad-Aware SE for chasing down those nasty cookies that you didn't know you still had.
